Project description
This ongoing project is evaluating a new monthly clinic delivered by a paediatrician and health visitor within Camden and Islington Family Hubs.
The clinic proactively invites families with young children (2 months–5 years) who frequently attend UCLH’s emergency department for low‑acuity issues — cases that could often be managed safely in the community.
Family Hubs offer a welcoming ‘one‑stop shop’ for health, social care and parenting support. By moving the clinic into this community setting, the project aims to improve parents’ knowledge, confidence and trust in local services, reduce avoidable A&E attendances, and strengthen families’ links with wider support such as welfare advice, housing support, GP services, dental care, developmental reviews and stay‑and‑play activities.
- The evaluation is an 18‑month mixed‑methods study examining:
Changes in A&E attendance before and after the clinic - Families’ experience, satisfaction, and confidence using community services
- Usage of Family Hubs and other local health and social care support
- Staff perspectives on feasibility and future development
Data will be collected at the clinic, and again at two weeks and six months through short interviews, with findings analysed using qualitative and quantitative methods. Results will help inform future service design, ensure support reaches families who need it most and strengthen integrated care across Camden, Islington and UCLH.
