Project description
The Sustainable School Clothing Swap Programme supports families in Camden by improving access to affordable school clothing while promoting sustainability and reducing inequality. The rising cost of school uniforms can place significant pressure on families, particularly those experiencing financial hardship. Through this programme, participating schools receive funding to organise school clothing swap events, donation schemes, and reuse initiatives, enabling families to exchange or access good-quality uniforms at little or no cost. By reducing the financial burden associated with school clothing, the programme aims to ensure that every child can attend school with confidence, dignity, and a sense of belonging. Access to appropriate school clothing can also contribute to improved attendance, wellbeing, and participation in school life.
The initiative aligns with the wider goals of Raise Camden to address child poverty, family wellbeing, and inequality, and supports Camden’s commitment to sustainability by reducing textile waste through reuse and recycling. The programme is intended to become self-sustaining and will be run by student or parent/carer volunteers.
